1. Supreme Court to Hear Challenge to Obama Health Care Law
The U.S.Supreme Court will hear a challenge to President Obama's signature law on health care.The nine-member court will look at severability, could the rest of the law survive since it is primarily built on the revenues collected by forcing people to buy health care.The case is one that all sides want heard.the president would also be able to promote aspects that most Americans say they accept, including leaving 26 year olds on their parents insurance and not allowing insurers to reject clients with pre-existing conditions.
2. Police Move In on 'Occupy Portland' Campsite as Protesters Remain
Several hundred protesters, some wearing goggles and gas masks, marched past authorities in a downtown street Sunday. Police moved into the camp (which was shut down by Mayor Sam Adams the night before for citing unhealthy conditions,drugs and theft)and drove protesters into the street. Police arrested dozens of people. Fights broke out and one man had to be taken away on a stretcher.
3. 552 Million People Could Have Diabetes by 2030, Study Says
The International Diabetes Federation predicts that at least one in 10 adults could have diabetes by 2030, according to its latest statistics. Estimated that 552 million people could have diabetes in two decades' time based on factors like aging and demographic changes. There are about 346 million people worldwide with diabetes, with more than 80 percent of deaths occurring in developing countries. The diabetes case is thought to be of aging rather than obesity.
